Solar and lunar eclipses in 2009
For the record, we're expecting two solar and four lunar eclipses in
2009; they're shown on the calendars, but you'll need to research
elsewhere to find exact details of if and when they may be visible at
your location.
(My planetarium program does do a reasonable job of it, though,
especially if you can get it to run using the 'Swiss Ephemeris' data
files.)
Here's the list of dates:
-
Annular Solar Eclipse: Monday Jan 26th
-
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: Monday Feb 9th
-
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: Tuesday Jul 7th
-
Total Solar Eclipse: Wednesday Jul 22nd
-
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: Thursday Aug 6th
-
Partial Lunar Eclipse: Thursday Dec 31st
The total solar eclipse in July is the longest-duration one this century,
but you'll need to be somewhere around a line from India through China
to the South Pacific to see it.
For more information may I suggest some great websites out there which
are already giving excellent information; here are three generally
